You're not wrong to be concerned. Many of us are going to become dependent to the point where we need more help than our family members can reasonably provide. My mother spent four years in a nursing home after suffering a debilitating stroke. I have one sister who is now bed-bound in a facility due to a rare neurodegenerative disorder, and another who lives in assisted living with her husband, both with varying degrees of cognitive decline. We'd all love to remain hale and hearty until our last day, but it's best to plan for that not being the case.
