Wow, this resonates big time. My dad was 47 when I was born, my mother three months shy of her 40th birthday — like you, I sure never thought of my parents as young, and my sisters were 12 and 7 years older than me. Dad died when I was 22 but Mom made it to almost 96 -- the last 4 years of which were spent in a nursing home after a stroke she wasn't expected to survive. And now, with one sister dead this past June and one in memory care, I'm more than orphaned, if there is such a thing. Yet like you, I feel fortunate.
