We agree on all points, David. That’s why I believe teachers should be much better trained, given many opportunities (and expectations for) professional development, and be much more highly paid — and very, very selectively recruited and hired. They can shape or mar a student’s life as much as any surgeon. It should be a high-demand, high-prestige profession.
