Prospect theory is fascinating, as is your story. But from my elder perspective, I question whether we can honestly view our past choices as either right or wrong. They were the best we could do at the time, whether we can approve of them now or not. And we are who we are — people capable of self-contemplation — because of the choices and the mistakes we've made.
