I worked with a team of tobacco control advocates from a number of national health organizations, back when e-cigarettes first came on the scene. At the time, many of us were frustrated by the apparent inability of the FDA and CDC to spot the threat posed by these new products — which, as we predicted, were quickly co-opted by the tobacco industry to addict a whole new generation of kids to nicotine. And now, years later, we’re beginning to experience the tragedy of vaping illness.
