I too wish there was better guidance on this -- but maybe my confusion and discomfort are payback for the days when I — a normal-weight young woman, but never satisfied when comparing myself to the stick-thin cultural ideal — would kvetch about my size or how many calories something had, even in the presence of women much larger than me. Talk about unconscious. Truly sorry, bigger sisters.
