I too remember the pre-Roe v Wade days, and how terrified I and other young women were of what would happen if we faced an unwanted pregnancy. At the same time, men's assumed entitlement to women's bodies was in full force and every girl I knew who was dating was under extreme pressure to have sex whether she was ready, or protected, or not. And it took a lot to access birth control. Now that we've gone back to those dark ages (I live in Idaho, which seems determined to compete for last place when it comes to reproductive rights), I realize that keeping women terrified was the whole point. Terrified people are easy to control.
