I so appreciate the way you portray the experience so many of us who've been writing on Medium for a number of years are having (long story short; it's not encouraging), yet without sour grapes. I signed up for a free 4-day online workshop last month conducted by apparently wildly successful Medium writers (who shall remain unnamed), mostly because they were hosting a roundtable that included Tony Himself (I don't mean for that to sound as snarky as it does). I don't envy him either, but he had very little to say that was any help besides the points he made that you quote here. My takeaways = write about UX or other tech stuff (I don't) or productivity hacks (I don't) or how to be a multi-platform hustle culture entrepeneur (like the folks who conducted the workshop). If that's where Medium is headed, that's certainly their right, and I'm not bailing out -- but like you, I will be here less. I suspect that, for writers like me who tend toward inspiring or humorous personal essays, that's fine with Tony.
