I raised my children on Star Trek, and as adults they can differentiate a bat'leth from a Klingon pain stick at 200 yards. I wholeheartedly agree, it's sad to see the fictional assumptions about the human future abandon Roddenberry's hopeful vision and cave to the apocalyptic. But I wonder, if Mr. Musk does manage to hook us all up with all the knowledge of the known universe, if that will illuminate us or just send us further down our self-created rabbit holes. We don't seem to be doing very well with the present wealth of info at our fingertips.
