I believe that meaning-making is a big part of what makes us human. After the accident that made him a quadriplegic, Christopher Reeve said something that stuck with me. Not in these exact words, he said,

"Either this happened for a reason, or there's no reason behind it at all: either way, my choices about how to respond are the same."
