"Cruelty is needless." — Indeed it is, and it has been unleashed like a demon in our culture, particularly our conveniently anonymous social media culture where it's so easy to launch vicious attacks without risk of consequences. But — and please bear with me here — anyone who writes online about difficult, personal, or highly charged topics is guaranteed to come in for a certain amount of vitriol from the haters. It should be reported or flagged when possible, and platform gatekeepers should weed it out. Getting into an online duel with critics, however, only adds gasoline to a fire that you might wish would just go out. With respect, I question the focus on criticism when it's clear that you also enjoy a great deal of support and positive comments.
