Could the angry African spirit put the whammy on the victim and compel him to visit a zoo or aquarium where, in a trance state, he climbs past the barriers into an elaborate enclosure meant to replicate the environment of a Nile river bank -- where he's seized and eaten by a Nile crocodile? That's always struck me as a particularly ghastly way to go :-)
