Bravo! I’ve raised two sons to adulthood and have been in middle-school (ages 11 to 13, roughly) for a good chunk of my career, and I am here to tell you that your approach is spot-on. Resilience, self-reliance, and empathy will do more for your child (who did an excellent job selecting parents, clearly) than any toy or party or car ever could. Luckily for your child, you don’t need me to tell you that. I am sorry for the wealthy businessman, who is creating an unhappy monster who will disappoint him many times. Yes, I’m judging :-)
